Jank exists, but its easy to get accustomed to it. Risen 1 impressed the snot out of me as it delivered a more proper 'Bethesda-esque' exploration game with better balancing and more rewarding progression.
WItcher 1 with a Steam controller is a good bit of fun and makes trudging across the big environments so much more comfortable with an analog stick than the KB. I last played it like 5 years ago and had a great time despite some jank.

Mods are out there to clean up many of the issues and smooth a bit of the visuals. Vampire the Masquerade is a good one to try. I lasted less than an hour as the act of playing the game is just too arcane and obtuse to really deal with(just basics like walking around and picking up stuff even). I tried getting into it again recently after snagging it for like $3 on Steam.
